If that was all a good teacher did, <em>how would you learn?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Joshua:<\/em> Well\u2026 a teacher\u2019s job is to take a red pen, go over your work, <em>and mark it up<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>God:<\/em> (shakes his head) That is <em>not<\/em> a teacher\u2019s job. Who told you that was a teacher\u2019s job?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Joshua:<\/em> Well, <em>that\u2019s what it was<\/em>. In school, <em>if I heard <strong>nothing<\/strong><\/em>, I was a good student. All that mattered was: did the teacher have anything to critique? If not, <em>then I was a good student<\/em>. Nothing else mattered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>God:<\/em> (shakes his head) Tell me: did teachers <em>ever talk<\/em>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Joshua:<\/em> Yes. They talked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>God:<\/em> And, did you <em>learn?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Joshua:<\/em> Yeah. It\u2019s how I was able to do the tests. And get marked. And told I was <em>wrong<\/em>. Which meant my future was in jeopardy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>God:<\/em> Joshua\u2026 <em>people put things into simple terms<\/em>. \u201cGet good grades, so you can get into a good college!\u201d <em>That\u2019s not how my kingdom works<\/em>. You can tell you are a son, <em>because you are <strong>corrected<\/strong><\/em>. But \u201ccorrection\u201d isn\u2019t just a red mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(I see a picture of archery: an arrow flies at a target, and lands slightly above the bullseye. The positioning of my \u201cview\u201d changes\u2014now I\u2019m the archer, and God\u2019s beside me, holding my hands and whispering)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joshua\u2026 make sure that you <em>don\u2019t think just about the bullseye, <strong>but the trajectory<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(He leans back) Hitting the bullseye is about more than just <em>the bullseye<\/em>. It is about <em>trajectory<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A good teacher <em>improves your trajectory<\/em>.
