Joshua:<\/em> Okay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> Do you know?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> \u2026Know what? That\u2019s such an unhelpful question it\u2019s kinda rude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do I know how to juggle? Do I know what your favorite ice cream is? Obviously it\u2019s my favorite, cuz I have good taste! What? What do I know?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> Do you know?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> Holy Spirit, that\u2019s not a question<\/em>, that\u2019s the start of a question!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> No, it\u2019s a complete sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> It may be a complete sentence, but it\u2019s an incomplete thought!<\/em> What is it that you\u2019re trying to get to?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(the Holy Spirit pauses for a long time, and I get the impression won\u2019t answer)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do I know? Um\u2026 YES! Absolutely! Totally! Yeah, I know. I definitely do. So let\u2019s\u2026 talk about this thing<\/em> I know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> (shakes head) I didn\u2019t ask \u201cdo you know about a thing?\u201d but just \u201cdo you know?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> Well\u2026 yes!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> How do you know you know?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> That\u2019s not fair! I\u2019m just trying to pick a path so we can move forward here! I\u2019m tired<\/em>, and I\u2019ve got tasty coffee<\/em>, and I wanna nap<\/em>, and\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026Okay, sorry, I\u2019m being rude. I just\u2026 don\u2019t wanna sit on an unclear question. You do this with me a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> Why do you want to escape from the unclear question?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> Because I\u2019m afraid it\u2019ll take too much time<\/em> and I\u2019ll be tired and grouchy tomorrow!<\/em> I was shocked<\/em> how tired I was today! Even though, like\u2026 I didn\u2019t get much sleep\u2026 went through a ton of healing with you\u2026 and hosted and made meals throughout most of the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> Not most of it\u2014the entire weekend<\/em>. On top of volunteering. In multiple capacities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> You know what, I should be able to handle it all!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why don\u2019t you just give me a supernatural energy to do whatever-the-heck? I mean\u2026 coffee isn\u2019t as good as you! You\u2019re like\u2026 I mean\u2026 well\u2026 the creator of everything and have energy and all that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I want to be energetic!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> What did you do on your sabbath?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> \u2026Well, I hosted. I was pretty busy. Even though it was really good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit: <\/em>(nods) You\u2019re not tired out of being weak<\/em>, but out of using strength<\/em>. That\u2019s a big difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You often mistake used strength<\/em> for presence of weakness<\/em>. I don\u2019t see them the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> \u2026Isn\u2019t weak just \u201cyou don\u2019t have the strength\u201d?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> (shakes head) Weak is \u201cyour baseline<\/em> doesn\u2019t have the strength\u201d. Your baseline is solid. You\u2019ve just pushed. You have to recharge now<\/em>. Otherwise, you\u2019ll be drained<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> Well\u2026 why do I need to do that? Why don\u2019t you just supercharge your believers\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> (gets right in my face. Clears throat and stares at me) Right now, if I were to supercharge you, you would use that energy to continue dancing around our conversation. Sometimes, tiring you out is the only way I get an edgewise word in<\/strong>. I know you. You talk best tired<\/em>. I don\u2019t want you tired all the time. But I know how to get you to be honest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> \u2026That\u2019s fair. I\u2019d just do what I\u2019m doing\u2026 but faster<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> (nods) So tell me\u2026 (spreads out arms) Would what-you\u2019re-doing-but-faster be anything worthwhile?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> \u2026No. Cuz I\u2019d keep dancing around you, instead of, like\u2026 you know\u2026 engaging<\/em>. But I don\u2019t wanna engage! I wanna rest and watch TV!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> (smiling, gets even more in my face) You don\u2019t want to engage with the creator of the universe?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> \u2026I don\u2019t wanna say \u201cno\u201d. But I also do, cuz I\u2019m curious how you\u2019ll react. Will you get mad? Will you laugh?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> (tilts head) You do<\/em> realize that I am much better at teasing than you are. I can out-tease you. I know you. If you didn\u2019t want to do this, you would\u2019ve disengaged<\/em>. You\u2019re not disengaging. You\u2019re dancing<\/em>. You\u2019re playing with me. I would much rather someone laugh in prayer<\/em> than be solemn at a screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> \u2026So\u2026 what was it you were wanting to check in on? You know\u2026 the \u201cdo you know\u201d thing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> (smiles) Do you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> No!<\/em> And I\u2019m\u2026 weirded out by the question. I get your ways are higher than my ways and stuff, but I still like it when you make sense!<\/em> But come to think of it\u2026 you almost never do to me anyway, so like\u2026 that\u2019s kinda silly. What I just said makes no sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wait, do I make less sense than you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> (nods)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> That\u2019s not fair!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> (tilts head) I don\u2019t think comparing yourself to the king of the universe is particularly fair as it is. What is \u201cfair\u201d between you and me? Did I concern myself with \u201cfair\u201d when it came to paying for your infirmity?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> \u2026No. Thank you for being unfair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> (nods) And\u2014(holds up finger) you need to understand something. You decided pretending to know<\/em> was better than acknowledging you knew too little to understand the question<\/strong><\/em>. You could\u2019ve said \u201cno\u201d, and that would\u2019ve been just fine. Not understanding doesn\u2019t mean you\u2019re bad\u2014it means you don\u2019t understand<\/em>. And if my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts, do you really think I get offended every time my way and thought is higher than your own?<\/em><\/strong> No. It doesn\u2019t shock me. It doesn\u2019t bug<\/strong> me<\/em>. If you disagree with me, if you argue with me<\/em>, it can become rather funny, but I don\u2019t get upset when you don\u2019t know what I know<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m not looking at you going \u201cwhy aren\u2019t their ways as high as mine?\u201d I instead show you my ways<\/em>. I\u2019m not looking at you going \u201cwhy aren\u2019t their thoughts as high as mine?\u201d I instead share with you my thoughts<\/em>. Acknowledge where you don\u2019t know, and I can teach<\/em>. Humility is key. I will never be offended at an answer to any question of mine of \u201cI don\u2019t know\u201d. The one who pretends that he does<\/em> will rapidly move into either pride or delusion, and I must break both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> \u2026Does that mean you have to break my pride and\/or delusion, since I pretended I knew?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Spirit:<\/em> (shakes head) I went with that example<\/em> so it was low stakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
