Go to the book of Matthew, and read through chapter 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua, let me ask you a question. I want to ask you \u201cif they hadn\u2019t woken me up, what would have happened?<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua: <\/em>Well\u2026 they didn\u2019t have the faith to stop the storm themselves. So they would\u2019ve died<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

God:<\/em> \u2026 I would\u2019ve had no right to rebuke them<\/em> [for that]. I wouldn\u2019t rebuke them for asking for help they need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua\u2026 I wouldn\u2019t have rebuked them for needing me<\/em><\/strong>. I don\u2019t rebuke people for asking for help they need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You believe often when you are in a storm, and you don\u2019t know what to do<\/em>, that you will be rebuked<\/em><\/strong> for asking for help. That isn\u2019t the message in this story<\/em><\/strong>. You have been taught \u201cyou should sleep in the storm, not ask Jesus for help\u201d. That is not the message in the story<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The problem wasn\u2019t that they asked me for help. They could have said \u201cLord, we need your help.\u201d Instead they said \u201cLord, save us! We\u2019re going to drown!\u201d I rebuked the wind and the waves. I acknowledged the issue, AND I REBUKED IT<\/em><\/strong>. I didn\u2019t say \u201cthe wind and the waves aren\u2019t the problem, YOU ARE!\u201d Yet that is how this story is treated<\/em>. Galilee can have sudden storms that kill people<\/em>. I rebuked the wind and the waves, because they needed rebuking!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I didn\u2019t rebuke them for asking for help\u2014that would be rather passive-aggressive<\/em><\/strong>. \u201cOh, your problem is your fear<\/em>! Actually that\u2019s a lie\u2014you shouldn\u2019t have woken me up!<\/em>\u201d I didn\u2019t say \u201cWhy did you wake me up?\u201d I did not say \u201cYou don\u2019t need me\u201d. I didn\u2019t even say \u201cYou should sleep with me\u201d. I addressed their faith and their fear<\/em><\/strong>. They should have known in asking me for help THEY WOULD HAVE GOTTEN IT!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If they had faith, they wouldn\u2019t have held back from asking me<\/em><\/strong>. Why would faith prevent a request? Faith EMBOLDENS IT<\/em><\/strong>. They were amazed at what I did. That means they didn\u2019t expect I WOULD ACTUALLY DO IT<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the storm weren\u2019t actually an issue, I wouldn\u2019t have stopped it.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I will never rebuke you, I will never turn you away, I will never get angry at you FOR ASKING FOR HELP<\/em><\/strong>. Yet you are taught that I would. Has that been your experience?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> \u2026No. \u2026 I\u2019ve never seen you get angry when I ask for help<\/em>, even if it\u2019s something I question or think I should be able to do without it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

God:<\/em> (nods) Rebuke the lie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua:<\/em> In Jesus\u2019s name, I rebuke the lie\u2026 wait, what\u2019s the specific lie?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
