God: Let’s talk about what you just said.

Joshua: I think I’m prone to burnout.

God: (shakes his head) Who told you that?

[(God and I discuss why I believe that and a series of events from my past.)]

I want for you to watch [a YouTube short you saw in the past on burnout again].

[(I look up one from the same creator, but a different video, and watch it.)]

Joshua: He said to “make sure you can see the impact of your work”. That [burnout happens] because you feel like your work didn’t mean anything.

God: (nods) Which is exactly what [you had been told]. That you’d done everything incorrectly. … In other words, “yeah, none of your work mattered”.

So you were given two lies, [without other voices having room to speak into your life]:

  1. “Your work doesn’t matter”: … In other words: “Joshua, I don’t believe anything you contribute in this world matters”.
  2. The second one is just as deadly: “You are wrong about what matters”. You thought you knew. [You were told] you didn’t. What a way to break a man down. [That wasn’t supposed to be boot camp].

Break those in Jesus’s name.

[(I do.)]

Joshua, your work matters.
